Clean Fuels Transportation Pilot Career Opportunity Project

Increasing Career Awareness for High School Students

The Clean Energy and Transportation Initiative (CETI), in concert with funding through the California Energy Commission, has developed a pilot training project to increase career awareness for high school students in the clean fuels transportation field.

Through this project, and the recently completed Community College Alternative Fuel and Vehicle Technology Training Enhancement Program (Link, registration not required), CETI will continue its work to grow and strengthen clean fuel transportation programs that prepare new workers for careers in this field, and train incumbents on the latest technologies

Training, Opportunities and Encouragement

Funded high school programs will offer clean fuels technology training to students, introduce opportunities to students who may not have considered a career in clean fuels transportation, and encourage interested students to matriculate into well-established community college programs to continue their studies.

Funding Will Be in Support of For-Credit Technical Training Programs and Will Be Used to:

  1. Acquire equipment and related software/tooling for lab instruction;
  2. Develop or modify curriculum; and
  3. Provide faculty professional development.

Funding Fuels High School Outreach at Community Colleges

The California Energy Commission (CEC) funding for the CETI sector has allowed community colleges to step up their recruiting efforts for high school students and adult learners. Those efforts have resulted in an enrollment increase that does not appear to be slowing down anytime soon.

Recruiting and outreach are essential as the demand for these jobs continues to grow throughout California. Through high school visits, open houses, and other activities, students are able to see what type of work they would be doing and learn how to get there through their local community college.

Take a look at how three community colleges are using the funding to make an impact on prospective students in their areas.
