Want to be an Industry Partner?

Industry partners are a critical feature of the ATRE program. Through our partnerships we provide up-to-date training for our students, ensuring that they are ready and able to actively participate in the workforce, here .

In addition we have worked steadfastly with our industry partners to provide faculty training and work experience, honing technical skills to pass on through their teaching.

Finally, with our many industry advisory boards we maintain interaction between faculty and industry to provide continual improvement in our programs.

Our Partners

Southern California Regional Transit Training Consortium

United Airlines, San Francisco International Airport, CA


  • Employee and management training in Lean Process techniques leading to workflow improvements and cost reductions.
  • Eight two-week (72 hour) training cycles were offered from July 2007 – June 2008.
  • Each cycle provided training to approximately 22 rank-and-file, management and/or executive employees.

US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), San Francisco, CA


  • CCSF is leading a study team to develop bio-diesel training material for the US EPA.
  • Three sets of training material are being developed to help firms make their transition to biodiesel fuel problem-free.
  • Material is available to the general public via the EPA’s West Coast Collaborative website.

Valley Clean Air Now – Sacramento, CA


  • “Tune In, Tune Up” events state wide, Light Duty Diesel Engine Performance curriculum.

All Valley Environmental – Fresno, CA


  • Biodiesel project converting used vegetable oil into Biodiesel.

Unlimited Energy – Fresno, CA


  • Solar Installation company solar installer DACUM verification.

Central Valley GM Parts and Service Managers Club – Fresno, CA

Fresno West Coalition for Economic Development – Fresno, CA


  • Working on solar installer training for low income work force.

Ford Motor Company – La Mirada, CA


  • Have had the Ford ASSET program for 22 years.
  • Ford and Cerritos College collaborate on curriculum development.

General Motors – Burbank, CA


  • Have had the GM ASEP program for 27 years.
  • GM and Cerritos College collaborate on curriculum development.

Chrysler – Ontario, CA


  • Have had the Chrysler CAP program for 22 years.
  • Chrysler and Cerritos College collaborate on curriculum development.

Southland Motor Car Dealers Association – Long Beach, CA


  • Facilitates partnerships with the local dealers.
  • Encourages local dealers to sponsor college students.
  • Increases support from local dealers providing input for the new automotive facility remodel and construction project.

Southeast Regional Occupational Program – Cerritos, CA


  • Offering Southeast ROP classes at Cerritos College; including Automotive, Cosmetology and a Woodworking class.
  • Collaboration on curriculum development and input on what the prospective/current student’s interests are.

Toyota Technical Education T-TEN Program


  • Trained over 1000 incumbent workers over the past 10 years.
  • Toyota Motor Sales, USA provides over $200,000 in annual support.
  • Toyota donates vehicles, books, proprietary internet access, training, and instructional components.
  • With ATRE, Toyota leverages dollars to maximize the total number of annual graduates.

Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) – Orange County, CA


  • Have worked closely to develop instructional materials in the alternative fuels area.
  • Have developed four training programs for the transit industry.
  • Cypress College provides instructional development, technical support, and train-the-trainer courses for OCTA.

Sempra Energy – Southern California


  • Long standing supporter of ATRE.
  • Developed 2 training programs tailored specifically for Sempra Energy customers.
  • Curriculum development representing hundreds of hours of research and development in computerized engine management systems.

Volvo Penta – California


  • Cypress College provided Volvo Penta with an exclusive classroom.
  • Volvo Penta delivers 8 training courses from their Cypress College home.

Matco Tools – California


  • Assists Cypress College at marketing and outreach events by providing marketing tools.
  • Has created a student study area at Cypress College to assist students in their instructional endeavors.

Gunner Aviation – Sacramento, CA


  • An industry partner of Sacramento City College for more than a decade.
  • Chester Peterson, owner and operator, has donated both time and equipment to the Aeronautics program.
  • Has also donated facilities and equipment for specialized training for both faculty and students.

Cessna Citation – Sacramento, CA


  • Managed by a former graduate of the ATRE Airframe and Power plant program.
  • Have looked to SCC program graduates in an effort to fill any available A & P positions.

Sierra Northern Railroad – Sacramento, CA


  • Railroad Operations ground school is held at their facility.
  • Railroad Operations Program has a 100% hire rate due to this partnership.

American Suzuki – Northern California


  • Has hosted the factory update seminar for all dealers for the last eight years.
  • Assists the college with both curriculum revisions and equipment donations.

Westport Innovations/Cummins – Long Beach, California


  • Has provided training materials and technical support, for new LNG technologies.
  • Assisted in training of technicians working on alternatively fueled drayage vehicles at the Port of Long Beach.

Long Beach Transit – Long Beach, CA


  • Offers internships for technicians completing ATRE alternative fuels programs, related to transit vehicles.

Bureau of Automotive Repair – Sacramento, CA


  • Provides training materials for the BAR Update classes, as well as our Emissions and Computer Controls program.

Kenworth – Kirkland, WA


  • Provides technical support, for new LNG technologies, related to the training of technicians working on alternatively fueled drayage vehicles at the Port of Long Beach.

Long Beach Clean Cities Coalition – Long Beach, CA


  • Provides the college with marketing opportunities through our partnership.

PG&E – San Francisco, CA


  • ATRE and PG&E have partnered on numerous training and education programs in the areas of alternative fuel, fueling station safety, regulatory compliance and first responder’s safety.
  • Developed educational materials – brochures, videos, and websites.
  • ATRE and PG&E provide instructors, equipment, funding, and project development.

Regional Occupational Programs – Bay Area, CA


  • ATRE has partnered with our local vocational programs to develop a solar installer program.
  • The program is expected to train 100 students a year for jobs in the rapidly expanding solar industry.

BURRTEC – California


  • Provided employees with CNG Tank Inspection Certification Training.
  • Burrtec provided sponsorship to COD students in certification training.

Coachella Valley Economic Partnership (CVEP) – California


  • ATRE is member of the CVEP Technology council servicing the CVEP pathways initiative.

American Honda Motor Company, Inc – California


  • Training entry level technicians completing an A.S. Degree in Automotive Technology.

Robert Bosch Corporation – California


  • Contract agreement to train their independent repair facilities’ employees with state-of-the-art diagnosis equipment.

CAT – Whittier, California


  • Working with the local dealerships developing a 2-year A.S. Degree program that includes an internship component

 

Formerly ATRE; Our name has changed to better reflect the industry focus of our initiative.

An initiative of the California Community College’s Economic and Workforce Development (CCCEWD) program, ATRE is dedicated to serving California’s Advanced Transportation and Renewable Energy companies with innovative business solutions.

We are an integral part of the California Community Colleges and its Doing What Matters for Business & Industry framework, investing funding and resources in industry sectors that are key to California’s economic growth. Our industry-specific workforce services are coordinated through a system of sector specialists that align community college and other workforce development resources with the needs of industry sectors and occupational clusters through a regional focus.
